In this post, we will explore the best jobs for stay at home dads, but also other legitimate opportunities for working from home while bringing in a full-time income.
When reading up on the best jobs for stay at home dads or other related opportunities, I was shocked by the information out there.
Some good, some not so good.
What really shocked me is the typical “pet sitting” or “go take a survey” recommendations.
This is fine, but I often wonder how many people actually take action on this advice that we see OVER and OVER again.
I don’t know about you, but I’m looking to support a family, not babysit the neighbor’s lapdog.
Here’s what type of work we recommend pursuing – that can be done right from home.
Best Jobs For Stay At Home Dads in 2018
Some things to consider when looking for jobs as a stay at home dad, or parent in general, is what are your day to day tasks like? How many hours can you commit to working each day?
Even if you can only spend 10-15 hours per week towards creating an income from home, I’ll show you where you can get started. In just about every case, the more hours you can put in, the greater the earning potential.
Are you looking for immediate earnings, or are you in no particular rush but would like to help out with bills in the near future?
If you are only interested in immediate earnings, I would recommend hiring on to a company where you can expect traditional bi-weekly payouts. Or something similar.
Would you prefer working for a company or complete independence?
You have options when it comes to working from home. We touch more on working for yourself, or Going Into Business For Yourself, just below.
1) Search Around
One thing we recommend doing is searching around using job listing sites. For the most up-to-date job listings, you can try sites like Monster, Indeed, or ZipRecruiter to see who may be hiring for at home positions.
Try using keywords like “work from home” or “online jobs” when searching on these sites.
Also, I have to add that you should use a bit of caution.
While you may encounter some legitimate opportunities, others may not be so candid.
No employer should be asking for any kind of upfront fees in order for you to get started with a job or making ridiculous claims of income that doesn’t align with the type of work being listed as available.
Always do your due diligence.
Here’s a list of 10 reputable companies you can check out for yourself.
Below we have a section for going into business for yourself.
Technically, freelancing can qualify as that as you are offering your skills or services to others.
Freelancing is a great option for at home dads as you choose your own projects and work your own hours.
There’s also an endless amount of jobs you could do when it comes to freelancing. Types of freelance jobs:
- Article writing
- Web design
- Graphic design
- Editing and proofreading
- Marketing and sales
- Teaching and tutoring
- Data entry
Jobs that you have held in the past or certain certifications you hold may come in handy as a freelancer.

3) Teach Others
Online tutoring is another big one.
Places to search for online tutoring jobs:
There are different tutoring jobs listed depending on where you choose to apply.
Some of the tutoring services being offered range from teaching students different subjects ranging from English to Math to Chemistry and so on.
Some of the companies listed above offer the opportunity to tutor in person or right at home. Some sites even offer resources and technology for their tutors to use, such as online whiteboards and webcams.
If online tutoring sounds interesting to you, follow one of the links above.
4) Search Engine Evaluator
Search Engine Evaluators make anywhere between $12-15 per hour.
When someone is searching for something on the internet, search engines want to provide people with the most relevant and qualified results.
Sure there are algorithms in place which can determine the quality and relevancy of results being displayed, but these algorithms aren’t perfect, causing the need for search engine evaluators.
As a search evaluator, it is your job to determine the quality and relevancy of search results within a certain search engine, say Google, for example.
From the research I’ve done on this position, there is an extensive test involved but you are given study material prior to taking this test.
Search Engine Evaluator jobs:
As we mentioned earlier in this blog, applying for a job and working for a company isn’t the only route to earning an income online.
You could very well provide for a family with your own internet based business.
When done right, you can build a nice, steady income for yourself.
And there’s really no limit to how much one can make.
Go Into Business For Yourself
For starters, I recommend finding some quality training if you are interested in establishing a legitimate, long-term online business.
Regardless of your experience, utilizing the right training, for proper guidance and instruction, can make all the difference in whether you fail or succeed at creating your business.
If you’re not interested in applying for a work from home job, then online business may be right for you.
Just realize, you typically don’t make money RIGHT away. It’s not like hiring on to a company.
The upside is that you set your own schedule. You choose how many hours go into your business.
If you can’t dedicate at least 10 hours a week to your business, then it may not be for you.
A Bit of Experience
I’ve been working from home, as an online business owner for the past 2+ years now and thoroughly enjoy what I do.
But it didn’t start out this way. It took me several months to be able to earn a decent income.
With hard work, and with the right support and training in my corner, I was able to accomplish something I didn’t think possible.
A business to call my own that I run solely using a laptop.
Let’s take a look at the best, current business models out there and where to get started with legitimate training.
Best Online Business To Start 2018
Before diving into specific business models, I wanted to share the main “ingredients” for a successful online business.
That is a website, traffic, a service or product to offer (sale), and a sales page.
With these, you can build a strong foundation for a successful business.
Most of the training courses that I’m going to introduce you to will either provide or show you how to get started with building a website, attracting traffic, etc.
The best online businesses to start in 2018 are:
- Affiliate marketing – Wealthy Affiliate
- Blogging/ads – Wealthy Affiliate
- Selling physical products – My Wife Quit Her Job
- Selling online courses – Growthlab – you will need to join mailing list
- Coaching – Growthlab
I was introduced to online business through affiliate marketing training and I highly recommend it for beginners to online business.
You earn commissions for referring different products or services. There’s an unlimited amount of things you can promote as an affiliate.
It’s a great introduction to how online business works.
To this day, I still follow this business model and it allows me to comfortably work from home and provide for a family.
If you’ve been searching around the web for awhile for legitimate online business training, chances are you’ve come across a few scams.
It’s easy to differentiate the scams once you come by real, quality training.
Ridiculous income claims (such as make $10,000 in your first week), autopilot and one-click “profit” systems, should be avoided.
When you come across quality training, you will get the full rundown of what it is you can expect to learn and gain by joining their program.
You should have a GREAT sense of what it is you are investing time and potentially money into before you decide to purchase any training or online opportunities.
Not a bunch of empty promises of fast riches.
Conclusion – Best Jobs For Stay At Home Dads

If online business is just not your ‘cup of tea’, have a look at some of the jobs recommended just above.
