And don’t worry, you won’t find any pet-sitting or making and selling gift basket ideas on this site.
Not that their’s anything wrong with pet-sitting, but I wouldn’t seriously consider doing these things myself.
Here are some things I’ve done or would do when considering legitimate work from home.
Online Jobs For Stay At Home Dads
For the last 3 years, I’ve worked closely in the ‘make money online’, ‘work from home’ niche.
These 3 years have included lots of research, meeting with others who have been very successful in this space, and even my own personal experiences and success.
Working from home can seem like…but the truth is it can be hard work and often take a bit of creativity especially if you plan on taking an entrepreneurial route as opposed to applying to an online job.
Let’s have a look at the jobs.
How working from home can be beneficial (link), you may be currently unemployed and exploring your options…we’re going to include items that were not included last time around. For even more ideas, check our previous article.
In no particular order, we’ve included a list of jobs that can be done online from home. Some of these you can do independently, some requires work with clients, and some you will need to put in a resume and get hired on like a traditional company – we’ll show you where you can apply.
eCommerce Store Owner (like Drop shipping)
There are several eCommerce business models.
This includes drop shipping, manufacturing, wholesaling, and more. Likely, you’ve heard of drop shipping before as it has been a popular means for people to earn online.
Drop shipping by definition: a fulfillment model that allows you to buy products individually from a wholesaler and ship them directly to your customer.
In simpler terms, you sell other people’s goods and keep a cut for yourself.
The business models behind eCommerce stores, like drop shipping, are pretty straight-forward. Creating an actual successful store that converts into income takes a bit more strategy.

Web development or building websites from scratch could bring in five to six figures annually depending on the job and your expertise.
You could work with companies and individuals alike who either don’t have the time or skill set in web development.
Closely related to web development is Local SEO.
This can include some web development services like web design but the goal of Local SEO is to help get businesses more traffic by helping them with search appearance in Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc.
Your business is to help clients get their business online.
According to Due, programmers earn on average $63 – $180 per hour. They also put together a lengthy guide to help those interested in programming to learn how to get started.
You don’t need a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) to start bookkeeping, a job with a median salary of $34,000.
Some tasks for bookkeeping may include:
- Checking records for accuracy
- Creating/updating financial records
- Posting financial records in computer programs
- Putting debits and credits to appropriate accounts
- Monitoring project budgets

Social Media Manager
We’re all familiar with social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and so on.
But did you know that people have made careers by managing social media accounts for others and can earn anywhere from $20,000/yr to $100,000+/yr.
Some tasks involved with this job may include:
- Scheduling social media updates
- Sourcing viral content for sharing
- Community growth & outreach
- Responding to customer service issues
- Reporting on reach, traffic & growth
- Creating social media images
- Setting up profiles
- SEO – yep, social updates need keywords too
- Sharing popular posts & sales pages on a regular basis
- Paid advertising
As a social media manager, your overall job is to develop a social media strategy for clients.
You don’t need to be an expert at all or any of these to get started. In fact, Hootsuite offers a free course dedicated to social media marketing and is a great place to start.
One awesome and hilarious example of social media management would be the person(s) running Wendy’s Twitter account.
Their unique and have their own style. Remember, your job is to develop a strategy for those you are working with. You can use your own approach while bringing something new to the table.
Kind of like we see with Wendy’s.

We’ve decided to add a few more places to get started for any educators who may have special knowledge in specific areas.
K12, is an online public school where students can learn by way of virtual classrooms and receive support from teachers/tutors on the phone, through online meetings, and even face-to-face sometimes.
Connections Academy also offers a place for tutors or teachers to teach online and earn money in the process.
You could earn between $12 to $35 per hour by tutoring students over Skype or over the phone.
Instructor (like fitness)
Whether if you know how to play and teach others how to play a musical instrument, or could offer valuable advice that could help others get in shape, people will happily pay you to share your knowledge with them.

Whether if you’re an amateur or pro photographer, you can sell your images to stock photography sites like Getty Images, Shutterstock, Adobe Stock, Foap, and more.
Shopify has a great article on how to turn your images into cash regardless of experience level.
The average pay for virtual assistants is about $15 per hour.
This role is best suited for those who are organized and enjoy handling office like duties. Such as:
- Email management
- Calendar management
- Travel arrangement
- Social media management
- Project management
- Customer service
- Data entry
- and more
Customer Service Rep
As a customer service rep, you can earn anywhere between $8-$15+ an hour.
This position usually requires exceptional communication skills, a landline, reliable internet, and your own personal headset.
You can usually find open positions on sites like Indeed or Ziprecruiter. Just search “customer service representative” or “customer care representative” once there.
Unfortunately, there are a lot of data entry scams floating around online. I regularly review different online jobs and training programs and often come across sites claiming to help people earn a ‘boatload’ of money through data entry.
The only catch is you have to buy their $50 program to get introduced to the “best jobs”.
Well, I can do you one better than that. How about a list of the best data entry jobs for free.
This positions primary task includes inputting data and usually starts out at $10 per hour (depending on the company).
If interested, try these sites:
This job involves listening to audio files and then typing out what you hear. Like data-entry work, this is considered another entry-level job that can pay up to $25 per hour.
Some places to try:
- Quicktate: They will do a background check and you will need to list three references while signing up. If you do well, then they may allow you to transcribe from iDictate.
- Atheron: Atheron is for those who want to do transcription work consistently. They only allow people to join from US and Canada. You also need two years of experience.
- Scribie: The pay is $5 to $20 per hour and the pay is based on the number of hours of audio files that you transcribe. You will have to take a test before you can become a certified transcriber.
Editing & Proofreading
From books to website articles to documents, you can get paid to edit and proofread these items.
